Yukon Land Use Planning Council has recommended that the Peel Watershed Planning Commission be re-established.

Once the Peel Watershed planning process was completed, the Peel Watershed Planning Commission was decommissioned.

The Plan currently states that “…the Commission itself does not have to perform the conformity checks at the request of YESAB (12.17.1).”

However, this statement contradicts UFA S.12.17 and YESAA S.44. A planning commission is the only body with authority to make representations on project conformity with plans and to consider whether variances should be considered. Therefore, a commission’s existence is a constitutional and statutory requirement.
