The Plan recommended the establishment of an HPA.
The June 2009 Approved Plan remains the canonical version. No amended version of the plan has been produced.
All references to “Whitefish – Porcupine Lakes” in the plan and on the maps are hereby amended to Ch’ihilii Chìk. The term Whitefish Wetlands will remain, as it is a wetlands complex that includes three (3) sub-units.
Plan Section 4.2.1, “Whitefish Wetlands” makes the following recommendation:
LMU 8A, Whitefish – Porcupine Lakes, a sub-unit of Whitefish Wetlands, should be designated a Protected Area category (see Figure 4.1 for location). This area includes part of VG R-02A in the central portion of Whitefish Lakes and YG public land around Porcupine Lakes on the west bank of Porcupine River.

Implementation Actions:
In 2019, OIC 2019-161 named the Ch’ihilii Chìk Habitat Protection Area under the Wildlife Act in the location formerly known as Whitefish Wetlands. This area was withdrawn from mineral activity and disposition under OIC 2019-159 and from oil and gas disposition under OIC 2019-036.
Also in 2019, the Government of Yukon and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation signed a management plan for the Ch’ihilii Chìk HPA.
The boundary of this HPA is the same as 8A Whitefish – Porcupine Lakes in the approved plan.
